  • Woodford-Eckis Lecture Series: Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, 8:15pm, Rose Hills Theater. The Geology department is please to welcome Lonnie Thompson, who will give a talk entitled: Global Climate Change:  A Paleoclimate Perspective from the World's Highest Mountains  (general public is welcome to attend).
  • Woodford-Eckis Lecture Series: Thursday,  Feb. 19, 2009, 11:00am, Rose Hills Theater.  Lonnie Thompson will give a second lecture: Climate Histories from Tropical Glaciers and the Evidence for Asynchronous Glaciation.

 

 

The Geology Department hosted the annual Woodford-Eckis Lecture Series on February 18 & 19. The dinner celebration on the evening of the 18th introduced this year's guest speaker, Dr. Lonnie Thompson, and commemorated the life and work of John Shelton ('35), former Pomona professor and author of Geology Illustrated. Fun with salt! Petrology students constructed phase diagrams for lab using salt water solutions of different concentrations and temperatures.
